The UNAIDS Global AIDS Brief United to End AIDS, released June 11, is the annual reckoning for the global HIV response. Each year, we pick over the numbers, charts, and descriptions of data to make sense of trends, successes, failures, and threats. With decades of developments in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, enormous investments from global health donors, and unprecedented collaboration between communities, researchers, and health-care providers, more people with HIV than ever were receiving treatment in 2025. New HIV acquisitions declined slightly, and AIDS-related deaths hit their lowest numbers for decades. But 45 years into the HIV pandemic, the HIV response sits on a precipice, as investments and political commitment decline.
